Nominating Staff for an Award

Nomination Period for 2011 Begins October 19, 2011Rocky congratulates employees

The University of North Carolina at Asheville seeks to recognize staff members who perform their job responsibilities with distinction and engage in the University Community at a level consistent with the Shared Values of our University. The Distinguished Staff Awards Committee seeks nominations for the following annual awards:

Eligibility

All full-time permanent staff employees (EPA and SPA) who have completed the probationary period are eligible.  The Distinguished Team Award may include part-time employees, members of Senior Staff, faculty, or employees in their probationary period.

How to Submit a Nomination

All nominations will be submitted through an electronic form. Nominators may access the electronic form by clicking on one of the award categories listed below. To submit more than one nomination, please return to this page. The name of the nominator will be shared with the Distinguished Staff Awards Committee but will remain anonymous to the nominee.

Distinguished Staff Awards

Distinguished Staff Award Nomination Form (5 Individual Awards Available)

In addition to the overall Distinguished Staff Award recipient, four additional staff members will receive awards in this category. This award category recognizes the nominees' exemplary performance in their positions based on their own merits and accomplishments as well as their reflection of Shared University Values (learning, creativity, diversity, engaged citizenship, equity and trust/integrity).

Distinguished Community Service

Distinguished Community Service Nomination Form (Individual Award)

This award is awarded to the staff member who, through his/her activities, exemplifies community service within the local and regional community. The award will recognize an employee whose community service connects UNC Asheville’s mission/values to the community at large through selfless service. These activities should not be part of the nominee’s job, and must have been undertaken on his/her own initiative and time in an effort to make life better for others. Examples include volunteer work with youth and elderly, work with non-profit organizations, assistance to disaster victims, teaching in adult literacy programs, etc.

Distinguished Team Award

Distinguished Team Award Nomination Form

This award is presented to the team (on the level of a department, committee, task force etc.) that addressed a problem or opportunity resulting in subsequent savings or improved service to customers/clients. The team’s work will have had a positive impact through UNC Asheville’s mission and values of innovation, excellence in performance, cooperation/collaboration, outstanding service and building community.

Unsung Hero/Heroine Award

Unsung Hero/Heroine Award Nomination Form (Individual Award)

This award is presented to the staff member who, through his/her daily work over a significant period of time, consistently demonstrates excellence. The individual’s contributions may have gone “unnoticed” by much of the community as he/she works “behind the scenes” with great humility. The employee recognized for this award would display extraordinary efforts in performing tasks other than his/her own normal job duties, show enthusiasm and initiative, and display a customer-oriented attitude.

Outstanding Contribution to Diversity

Outstanding Contribution to Diversity Award Nomination Form (Individual Award)

This award is presented to the employee whose contribution had a far-reaching, positive effect on UNC Asheville's inclusion of the diverse populations represented in the workplace, student population and/or the greater community. The award is given for outstanding performance on a variety of issues, which could include promoting diversity, organizational and/or employee/student outreach, Equal Employment Opportunity initiatives, working with special populations or improving employee morale.

 The deadline for submitting a nomination form is November 4, 2011.
