Benefit Plans

UNC Asheville provides a variety of benefit plans to meet the needs for you and your family members. Health coverage is underwritten by the State Health Plan of North Carolina and provided by BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina.

The options currently available:

  1. Traditional 70/30 PPO Plan
  2. Enhanced 80/20 PPO Plan

Other pre-tax voluntary benefits available through the NCFlex Program include:

Benefit plans run from January 1 to December 31 of the current year. Open Enrollment is held each fall to make your elections for the following year.

NOTICE TO NON-FULL-TIME INDIVIDUALS ENROLLED IN UNC ASHEVILLE’S MEDICAL PLAN

As a large employer, the Affordable Care Act requires us to prepare a Form 1095-C for all individuals enrolled in our employer-sponsored self-insured medical plan. In  2020 reporting year, the distribution requirements changed; we are no longer required to mail the form to any individual who is not a full-time employee for any month of the calendar year. However, if you were enrolled in our self-insured medical plan during the 2021 calendar year, you may request that a form be sent to you by contacting UNC Asheville’s Human Resources office:
