To that end, we have established the Workplace Wellness Committee to help faculty and staff achieve a lifestyle that includes healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco cessation and stress management.

The North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of Human Resources, is proud to host UNC Asheville's Workplace Wellness Program.
You are cordially invited to join in our campus community's "Well-A-Bration" events scheduled for September 16-17, 2013. In consultation with your supervisor, please plan to join in the fun and festivities. Participation is considered a part of your workday, and we look forward to seeing you there! The activities listed below, including free health screenings, are designed to be of interest to faculty and staff. Registrations are required for both of the listed events and can be made online by following the links to the individual registration pages below.
On September 16, the Wellness Lunch 'n Learn Series kicks off with a program focused on making connections. A one-hour community walk will follow the luncheon.
On September 17, Mission Health Systems will be on campus for faculty/staff health screenings. This year, screenings will include blood lipids, blood glucose, blood pressure, and body fat percentage. In addition, representatives from Mission Health Systems will be on hand for consultations in the areas of:
Chronic Disease, including heart disease, diabetes, stroke, cancer, etc.
Stroke, including prevention and general education
Nicotine Dependency, including local resources available to employees who wish to quit tobacco
Additional information in other health topics will be available, including sleep health and heart disease. After the health screening event, all faculty and staff are encouraged to attend a Health Fair planned for the Sherrill Center.
Also on the 17th, representatives from the State Health Plan will be on campus to answer your questions regarding changes to State Health Plan Options. Free Group Fitness Courses
With your OneCard, you have access to Group Fitness Classes like Pilates, Yoga, Meditation, Spinning, Zumba and more at the Sherrill Center. A number of courses are offered at 5:30 pm -- the perfect time to exercise at the end of the workday. The offerings include:
- Spin and Yogalates (Mondays and Wednesdays)
- Spin and Gentle Yoga (Tuesdays)
- Spin, Pilates and Zumba for People with Two Left Feet (Thursdays)
Faculty and staff are always invited to participate for free in all group fitness offerings. Starting next week, be sure to check out all of the following classes on the Campus Recreation website:

Campus Walking Trail Map
The Workplace Wellness Program and Facilities Management have introduced a new UNC Asheville Walking Trail System Map and Guide.
From short and simple to more adventurous off-pavement excursions, the on and off-campus walking trails surrounding UNC Asheville offer a variety of courses to suit your style and fitness goals.
