COVID-19 Leave Information

Colleagues,

I am writing to provide you with information and guidance about COVID-19 related leave and how to properly document this leave. Although there are different requirements for tracking faculty leave and staff leave, I am including both faculty and staff on this email so that we all have the same information.

Because of the impact of COVID-19 the State of North Carolina and the UNC System have temporarily granted the use of paid administrative leave for university employees, including temporary and student employees, for certain COVID-19 related absences.  This provision allows university employees to continue being paid through March 31, 2020, based on time they were already scheduled to work.  Please see our FAQs for Employees for specific information about this leave and about teleworking options.

We are required to carefully track this leave and have worked closely with Payroll to ensure that we have a system in place that is accessible for those who need to take paid administrative leave.  The below links provide instructions based on employee type.  Please read the instructions carefully and reach out to payroll@unca.edu with any questions about the instructions.

I also want to say to you all that there is a significant amount of information related to employment (a potential hiring freeze, what will happen with leave after March 31st) coming from the UNC System and the State.  Please know that your Human Resources team continues to review this information and we will continue to communicate with you and provide information and resources on the main coronavirus webpage as well as the HR webpage.
