For Your First Day
As a general rule, UNC Asheville hires employees into regular positions twice monthly. At the beginning of each month, the Office of Human Resources provides a comprehensive two-day onboarding program for employees new to regular positions.
On your first day of employment, you will have an appointment with Human Resources. Among the forms you will complete is the Federal I-9 Form which will require proof of identification. A list of acceptable identification can be found here. The most commonly used proofs of identification are a government issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license) and a Social Security Card. All employees must present the original documents; photocopies cannot be accepted. If presenting a Social Security Card, please keep in mind that some Social Security Cards should not be laminated (it is usually noted on the back of the card).
You will also be asked to complete the Federal W-4 and the NC-4. These can be found on the forms page.
For your convenience, Visitor Parking is available in front of Phillips Hall, Lot 18 on the campus map.
Once you are hired and have your computer login credentials, please register your vehicle here.
We require that you bring a void check for direct deposit of your salary.
Human Resources will introduce all new employees to OnePort, a web portal providing access to first-time email password creation and changes, employee leave reports, Web-Time Entry of timesheets, and tax forms.
For information on how an employee is paid, please visit Payroll.
When you begin work, you will receive comprehensive benefit information from our knowledgable benefits team. This will include a summary of benefits, explanations about our mandatory retirement plans, health insurance, leave programs including sick and vacation time as well as state and local benefits that are tied to UNC Asheville employment.
The Division of Child Development and Early Education of NC Health and Human Services has a website that discusses the rating system, as well as a customizable tool for searching for childcare.
